Trading Excess Solar Energy for Beer?

Image
It may sound a little amusing, but it’s no laughing matter for the brewers of VB or the brand’s loyal consumers. The iconic Victoria Bitter brand has teamed up with marketing firm Clemenger BDDO to introduce a scheme that will have VB lovers licking their lips. Consumers who generate solar energy from their rooftop solar installations typically receive a credit on their power bill for the excess solar they produce. Well, that credit can now be traded directly for a slab of VB delivered straight to your door. How the solar exchange program works Firstly, consumers will need to be signed up with energy provider Diamond Energy, or make the switch in order to redeem their VB credits. The offer is only available for Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales residents, with just 500 spots available. All participants need to have a retailer only feed-in tariff and a smart metre. The great thing about the scheme is you’re not just trading energy credit for beer, but you’r...

Reasons Why You Should Never Say ‘No’ To Grid Connection

If paying extra supply charges to connect your solar home to the grid seems tiring to you, then, there is one good news for you. You can go off-grid for as cheap as $10,000 with a battery system. To simply say this, when you go off-grid even when you already have a grid connection, it can add to your cost. Besides being a disadvantage for you, your planet will suffer from increased consumption of fossil fuel to generate electricity. This is ...

Clean Energy Regulator to Start Solar packages Serial Ledger

Image
In a move that will be music to the ears of reputable solar retailers as well as families across Australia, the Clean Energy Regulator has announced it’s developing a national Solar Panel Serial Ledger. Supporting the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme The Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) is designed to help increase the uptake of solar energy in homes across Australia. Effectively, it’s a subsidy or rebate that makes it cheaper for customers when buying eligible solar systems for their homes.  It is hoped the new recording of all solar panel serial numbers will better support this scheme. Currently, solar installers use a phone app to scan solar panel serial numbers prior to installation. This data is cross-checked against the  Clean Energy Council’s (CEC)  records to ensure the solar panels are indeed eligible for SRES subsidy. Once confirmed by the CEC, a small-scale technology certificate (STC) is issued so that customers can claim the subsidy. Howev...
